Gulf Gate Library opened in November 1973, in a small storefront on Gateway Avenue and later moved to 2264 Gulf Gate Drive. A donor gave the property on the corner of Gulf Gate Drive and Curtiss Avenue where a new library opened on December 3, 1983.
Gulf Gate Library plays a very important role in the community. Over the years, our library has changed as it strives to meet the needs of a changing society. Gulf Gate Library has become the hub of the community, offering both educational and entertaining programs for adults and children. It is a cultural center, where patrons meet for various clubs and for lectures on art, health, science, travel, and music. Gulf Gate Library is a life-long learning facility.
The Friends Bookstore hours are 10:am - 5:00pm; Monday - Saturday.
The Bookstore is managed by the Friends of Gulf Gate Library. The bookstore sells newer and gently used items and sponsors book
discussion groups, summer reading programs, library events, author visits, and library volunteer programs.
Without your support, the Friends of the Library would not be able to donate monies to the Sarasota Library System to buy new books, CDs, DVDs, audio-books, and e-books for the collection; to buy more furniture for our library; computers for our computer lab; and pay for all the children, teen, and adult educational and entertaining programs.
Below is a list of what types of materials the bookstore accepts and sells:
- Audio Books
- Magazines from the past 2 years
- Fiction and Non-Fiction Books
- Music CDs
- DVD, Blu-Ray
The Friends Bookstore accepts cash or checks for your purchases and is always happy to give you a receipt for tax purposes.
